4th Grade Retreat
On February 9, 2017, the fourth graders journeyed to Pa’ewalani for their class retreat It was a triple blessing as Mr. Noguchi, our Religious Education Principal, led the retreat with Mrs. Maryrose Timmons and Mrs. Julie O’Conner there to also share in this awesome retreat. The theme of the retreat was “Friendship In Christ”! Through games, activities and sharing, they learned that even though we don’t all look the same, act the same, or share the same talents…WE ARE ALL EQUAL IN THE EYES OF GOD, WE ARE ALL LOVED AND ARE BROTHERS & SISTERS IN CHRIST!
They watched two inspiring videos. One about Tony Melendez, a talented musician who was born with no arms and plays the guitar with his feet and the other about Nick Vujicic, a motivational speaker, who was born with no limbs. The students were inspired to see that they did not let their differences stop them from achieving their goals and sharing their talents with others. We also talked about the ‘Golden Rule’- “Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you”- Matthew 7:12. They were reminded of the importance of making good choices not only in our actions but also with our thoughts and our words and knowing that what we do or say unto others;
we also do & say to Jesus.
The fourth graders also made friendship necklaces with a cross and 16 beads, where each bead represented each of their classmates. At the close of the retreat, they gathered into a circle as Mrs. O’Conner presented their necklaces commissioning each of them to be “Friends in Christ!”
The necklaces were beautiful reminders of how each of them are special and that we are all ONE BODY IN CHRIST!
