Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Forgive us our sins.” These words from “The Lord’s Prayer” in today’s Gospel help us imagine the abundance of God’s mercy. This mercy is visible to us in today’s first reading as well. Thus, we also need to extend mercy to one another. When we do so, we allow the presence of Christ to shine. If we hoard God’s mercy, we do little to further the reign of God. Let us ask for the help we need to extend mercy to others by praying with the psalmist, “Lord, on the day I called for help, you answered me.”
Can you name one way that you have shown mercy to another person in the past week?
