On Wednesday, May 4th, students in grades 1 through 7 participated in Author’s Day. Students created stories based on their service learning projects this year. These projects included cleaning our beaches and parks, providing books for less fortunate children, helping the homeless and visiting with our Kupuna. Students learn the importance of living our motto, “Not for ourselves alone.”
The students spent several weeks visualizing, outlining, writing, editing and rewriting their own stories from these experiences to create a published piece. Classes then paired with each other to share their stories. They read their stories out loud, discussed what was read and wrote praise notes to each other. Everyone did a fantastic job producing thoughtful and interesting pieces of writing.
