Epic “Pi” Day

Epic “Pi” Day

By Miss Elisa Nirei, Jr. High Math Teacher

The entire school celebrated Pi Day as the 7th graders went to the lower grades to explain this special Math day with a mini lesson and activity.

Pi is a special number in math that is never ending and never repeats. That means the number goes on forever and ever! Pi is used to find the area and circumference of a circle. The first digits of pi are 3.14159. Every year on March 14th (3/14) we celebrate pi. But this year is Epic Pi Day because if you round pi to the ten-thousandths place value, you get 3.1416 (3/14/16). In honor of this momentous occasion, the entire school learned about pi by creating bracelets. Each color of the bracelet represented a number in pi. They also celebrated Pi Day with some delicious pie! Who knew Math could be such fun!
