By Mrs. Susana Kwock

from taroSocial Studies always sparks the fourth graders’ attention with interesting stories and facts from the past. Going back to early Hawaiian life, the students this quarter are studying the way the Hawaiians farmed. They have learned the parts of a taro plant, and how the kalo was planted in the lo`i.

Recently the fourth graders have also learned about the Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement which led to some shock about our country’s history, but also led to some good discussions about the importance of knowing our rights and making sure that we fight to treat everyone fairly the way Jesus wants us to.
