“A’ole Nou Wale No” Not for Ourselves Alone

By Mrs. Cindy Ramos, Grade 2 Teacher

alone3Our school motto is “A’ole Nou Wale No” or “Not for Ourselves Alone.”  Our second graders have been participating in service learning projects since they were in the Early Learning Center.  It is an integral part of our Religion curriculum.  The service learning process is more than just volunteering.  It is an on-going process.  The students learn, serve and reflect on a community in need.

alone2This year, we chose to serve the Laulima Giving Project by Keiki O Ka ‘Aina.  Since August students have cleaned up the environment by collecting and recycling cans and bottles.  They collected and recycled almost 2,000 cans and bottles.  With the monies earned from recycling, the students then went out to purchase Christmas gifts for children of the Laulima Giving Project.
